J’ai mal

I appear to be coming down with something. I’ve got a sore throat, headache, I’m tired and achy, but not congested. I don’t have a fever or the chills so I don’t think it’s the flu. But if it is, it’s coming on very, very slowly.

Je suis le nerd

This is going to be a nerdy one.

Firefox 4: Mozilla made a big deal about how Firefox would start using the computer’s GPU to help render web pages. Well, pages do render faster, especially high-end pages. However, the downside is that the font rendering is crap.

This is with the D2D turned on:

FF4 wD2D

This is without D2D turned on:

FF4 woD2D

(and yes, you’d need a closer look to tell the difference).

What sucks is that the whole program is affected.  It’s not just the pages that have horrible looking fonts; the actual program itself looks like crap, too.

I suppose I’ll just leave that turned off until it’s fixed.

C’est ça!

Image002

This is a picture of a small pool. You can’t see it very well, but there are turtles swimming in that pool. This was taken at McConnell Springs Park in Lexington, KY. I watched the turtles for almost ten minutes; they seemed very happy swimming in circles. I guess it’s difficult to determine the emotional state of a turtle, but I’ll assume they were happy.

J’écrais

I was slightly bored this evening, so I decided to clean up my Documents folder. I got rid of a lot of stuff that was junk and I cleaned up the rest. Then I uploaded it to the cloud, so to speak. I'm still trying to decide whether I like Office Live or Google Docs. Office Live seems to be better and handling the documents, it seems.

Où est le nez?

I know where my nose is. However, my neck is hurting. I’m going to make sure I do sit-ups differently in the future.

This month is dragging on a bit longer than I would prefer. I’m looking forward to the 28th and the Fark party in Cincinnati, but I fear I may not be able to get there. We shall see.

And yet I am awake. Vacation is almost over, for this I am sad. Otherwise, I am not.

I’ll write something more useful later.

Quelque temps…

My vacation is halfway over. I don’t know what else to say. It’s not been that great, but I’m glad it hasn’t been worse. Still, the time off work is quite nice. I’m enjoying that.

My cat is worrying me. I'm thinking he might need a bath. It has been a long time since he's had one. I know you're not supposed to wash a cat very often, but it's been over six month so I think it'll be safe. He doesn't like baths, though. I might need some armor.

The Sun is Shining
Cela me rend heureux.

Sans-titre

There's a reason I can't do stream of consciousness very well. I can't just write; I have to make sure everything is spelled and punctuated correctly. I second guess myself and revise as I write. That is one of my bigger writing mistakes, in general. I shouldn't revise as I write. I should write and get everything out. Only then, once I've finished, should I revise.

Another issue with stream of consciousness writing is getting frequently distracted or interrupted. You're not going to be able to get very far if someone bugs you every five seconds. Though, the collection of thought snippets might be interesting, if you can collect them over an extended period of time. Well, maybe.

But now, I want to talk about color. Not colour, but color. The extra u is certainly not needed. I've always wondered why we prefer some colors over others. I'm going to answer my own question by saying that everyone has their own preferences. Well, that was pointless. Anyway, I tend to prefer blues and greens. As I stated in a previous entry, dark green is one of my favorite colors. But blues are very nice too. I love when the sky is a very deep blue. As with green, I'm not all that fond of light or pastel shades.

There's a very subtle joke in there if you look hard enough. And possibly Waldo, though I'm not quite sure about that one.

N’est-ce pas?

Which is something that almost everyone has heard. Odd when you think about it.

It has occurred to me that I’m not very photogenic. I’m fine with that; many people are not and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. On a completely unrelated note: I must practice my photoshop skills.

Why can’t I sleep?

It works better like that, don’t ask me why. For some reason, I’ve been rather ill tempered, as of late. I need to figure out why.

It might have to do with having a crap internet connection router. It’s an old 802.11g, which shouldn’t be that slow, but apparently is.

Merde.

J’ai besoin acheter un nouveau routeur.

Le matin est vert

There is something about green that I absolutely love. I've never really understood why. And it's the dark, rich vivid greens I love; I've never been a fan of the lighter shades. It kinda reminds me of a forest or a really grassy area after it's been raining. That's one of the things I like about living around here: the greenness.

Tuesday

On the bright side, I had a Classic Fish Sandwich from Captain D's. It was wonderfully delicious. Hopefully that will sate my cravings for fish and chips. Tomorrow, it's back to oatmeal for breakfast and pot pies for lunch. Oh. Boy. I am so excited… :-/

Excess 001

If I remember correctly, this was titled “Excess”. My roommate in college had a habit of going to all the local Big Lots stores looking for recently expired cereal. Specifically, he would get Kellogg’s brand cereals that had the American Airlines Sky Miles offer on them. Because they were recently expired, he was able to get them ridiculously cheap; something like $.10/box, if I remember correctly.

By the end of second semester 2004, he had almost 40 boxes of Just Right.

I found an interesting tool today: http://iwl.me/. It analyses your writing and compares it to famous writers. Based on a sampling of my own writing, it has determined that I write James Joyce. I must say that I feel slightly insulted.

At least I've not written poetry about my cat.
Fortunately I've not forgotten my personal hygiene… so I've got that going for me.

Théâtre du rêve
I've never been a big fan of the saxophone. Whenever I hear A Change of Seasons, I generally refer to the sax part as "The Lethal Weapon section". I can't say that I'm all that fond of it. Otherwise, I love the song.

Secondly

Temps A Relativité Dimensionnelle Inter Spatiale
Captain D's wasn't open so I decided to have breakfast for lunch. Tomorrow, it'll be back to sandwiches, but I decided to treat myself today. Breakfast is monotonous as usual with oatmeal. Though, I have been spicing it up a bit: poached eggs and cottage cheese. Oh. Boy. I am a wild one.

My backpack is very large. It's not overly huge, but it's got so many pockets and other hiding places. When I moved, I used one less box because I was able to fit so much into it. It reminds me of a clown car. Or _____ (fill in the blank with your own topical reference).

Où sont les plumes?

I've been using OneNote. I am not sure why the date is listed as Friday, July 9, 2010, when it is clearly Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Perhaps some kind of mistake on the part of the computer? Or perhaps it's because the date is only updated when the page is created. It is obviously the latter; I just said that to have something to say. That and I like typing out dates. If I were feeling really pedantic, I would have typed out the year as two thousand and ten. Let's all be grateful I'm not.

Plug
I have to say that I like the idea of OneNote. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's quite serviceable. I agree it would be very useful with a tablet PC. You know if there were others besides the iPad. It is very much like a three ring binder, except since it's digital, I can't doodle. Well, I could. But I'd be drawing with a mouse and that never looks good.

Since I have OneNote 2010 at home, I should find a way to make use of it. Sadly, unlike other Office programs, I'm pretty sure Microsoft doesn’t have an online component. Correction: apparently it does. Hmm. Not terrible. A bit better than Google Docs. At least there's an intuitive way to close the document you're working on (other than closing the tab/window, that is). Also, it works in Chrome: another bonus point.

Procrastination
Eh. I'll do it tomorrow.

Thoughts
I realize it was just a joke, but the thought of someone sending pizza rolls, via mail, makes me ill. I don't want to imagine what they'd look like once they arrived at their destination. And, if they were send via Media Mail….
*shudder*
I can't imagine the end result would be edible.

Final Score 0-√(3-4)

Oh yeah, I went there.
